The renowned psychologist William James once said,
“The faculty of voluntarily bringing back a wandering attention, over and over again, is the very root of judgment, character, and will… An education which should improve this faculty would be the education par excellence”.
This mindfulness process uses the three faculties: observation, objectivity, and openness.
Observation is to become aware of own awareness, to observe how we focus our attention, observe our breath, sentiments, and thoughts.
Objectivity permits to distinguish awareness from mental activity, to further free identity from the storms of mental sea.
Openness is stabilizing our mindsight lens. It means that instead of being swept up by shoulds, we come to accept ourselves and our experiences.
This mindfulness process enables us to realize that experience is not equal with our identity.
